2nd October
Nothing for a couple of days, although when I looked at photos realised we did look at an ex-NATO Cold War missile defence base (Base Tuono) in Alto Adige region set up to conteract any enemy incursions by air from behind the Iron Curtain. It operated from 1966 to 1977 and was one of many, but this is the only one left with any remaining infrustructure.
We have spent last couple of days in Arsiero, Veneto, visiting Frank's family, but today drove to Bolzano.... didn't look far on the map... but another gruesome drive through mountain passes and while you are still getting over that, the b. toll roads... AND when we got there, Bolzano nothing like our romantic memory of it!
Anyway mission was to see Otzi (the Ice Man) again and that we did. The presentation had been changed completely and there was less speculative tableaus about the ice man's life, I guess as more research has been done. I enjoyed it again, Frank not so much.
