Sunday 16th
Today we headed for a Rhineland village, Braunweiler, which I believe G G
Grandparents came from. However this entailed a nice little drive which would have been ok if the b GPS had not taken us through the centre of Frankfurt... even on Sunday... what a schamozzle... we kept missing the turns and then had to do 10 ks to correct

Anyway when we finally made it Braunweler v picturesque little village set among vineyards.
Booked into a nice little gasthaus - German inn or tavern with zimmers.
The hotel was owned and run by a Herr Knoth... the same name as my
forebears... what are the odds? A very pleasant man, but hazy on
generations past, oh well. He did ask his mother about kirche records
for us, and priest who services the village church is on hols, anyway I
have a couple of email adresses to try. The village cemetry has recent
graves, last 100 years, looks as though sites have been recycled.

Near by town Bad Kreuznach has a bridge, a part of original remains, with buildings on the piers dating from 1300s... one of few remaining in the world... do not try to picture Pont Vecchio in Florence.... all tourist shops, etc. This is Germany and NOTHING is open on Sunday.. supermarkets...no, tourist shops ...no. Very strange feeling, a bit like going back in time. Anyway bridge very nice and quiet with few people wandering over it.
