Berlin

Friday 14th

Staying out of Berlin - Potsdam - F not keen on driving any further in than necessary... not sure why, ha ha.

Trained into central Berlin and took in the sights...... this involved a LOT of walking. Spent a few hours in the German History Musuem,   but eventually we had to surrender.

Berlin Hauptbahnhof (rail Station) described as designed with Fritz Lang's Metropolis in mindf

Reichstag - Berlin Parliament building

200 remaining metres of "The Wall"

Checkpoint Charlie

Berlin Concert hall

Currywurst mit ketchup...   must have Berlin speciality........ apparently!

Another view of Berlin Hauptbahnhof

After we trained back to hotel, Frank took his sorry a.. for a lie down and I continued on to Sanssouci - summer palace of Frederick the Great of Prussia, built in 1700's and reputed to rival Versailles. Huge grounds, about 8 palaces - I went into the New Palais, totally OTT roccco + baroque + whatever.
The royal family was relieved of it after WW1 when they scarpered to the Netherlands with 30 odd train loads of furniture, collections etc from the palace.
