Black Forest be damned

Tuesday 18th

On through Baden-Baden to the Black Forest. In Baden we saw the first evidence we saw of refugees, there were rows of  new temp buildings about 1 km out of town in the forest with some dark-complexioned  dudes walking into town from there...   not sure where that rest of the million are tucked away.

Baden Baden a very gracious old spa town, buildings very attractive, obviously lots of money around. V trendy pedestrians could be transported to St Tropez, no worries. Lots of good tans cruising around in expensive convertibles.

Black  Forest we found to be a bit ho hum, put it this was way, so far we have seen other forest areas much more scenic, far less commercial and touristy and don't talk to me about Black Forest cake, stopped a couple places, no didn't have it, finally went to the Info centre and were told a certain cafe. Arrived there 10.50am and no, not open til 11.30am.... I mean really, a cafe that opens at 11.30am? Also in the back we could see a woman taking a BF cake out of the box.....   so much for the handmade speciality....   obviously one of the many factories we saw as we drove around was a Black Forest cake factory!

Our opinion of the place was also probably coloured by the fact that we had a lot of trouble getting accomodation, driving around v tricky, one bloke said he had a room and when we drove up a goat track to get there, he was overbooked. Suffice to say we did not sleep in the car but it was a near thing.
