Sunday 9 September
Lucked out last night with a hotel (Hotel Maximilian) in sleepy hamlet Ehenbichl in Austria, great beer, great restaurant and most important of all... quiet! After Friday night in Zermatt with revellers passing our window at half hour intervals up to 3.30am.... singers, loud conversationalists, general yahooism and yodellers.
Anyway today devoted to the Bavarian kings, Maximillian and Ludwig the 2nd. Two castles visited Hochenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. both good tours taken along with a multitude of other rubber necks. (Frank can't blame me...they weren't on MY list- I've never heard of them... although I found the history very interesting) Both included walks up steep hills... if you were too stingy to pay for horse-drawn carriage ride! Also visted the museum devoted to the bavarian kings - again very interesting.
Rounded the day off with another 40 minute uphill walk to the Krause suspension bridge... read swing bridge.. as you walk across...200 metres wide and 100 metres above the ground below... don't look down!
